Minewoc

  • Oconomowoc Lake, WI
  • Addition | Single Family Home | Whole House Renovation
  • 15,000 sqft

To breathe life back into a 1890's lake front home, a whole house renovation was undertaken. The update included two additions to the existing stone structure to improve circulation and make the home more conducive to contemporary life.

A four car garage was added to a new wing of the structure with a full basement below and second floor above. The new basement houses a bar, wine cellar and home theater while opening up as a walk out to a patio overlooking the lake. The second floor above the garage functions as an extensive master suite where the shower is lined in slabs of white marble and the closet storage is composed of custom millwork. The addition is connected gently to the existing home with a glass transition piece housing circulation, stairs and an elevator. This transition, with floor to ceiling windows, offers sweeping views of the lake and property as one moves through the home.

The Second addition partially filled in a open courtyard improving circulation and site lines from the largest entertaining rooms to the kitchen and once again capitalizing on the views of the lake. To flood the courtyard addition and existing adjacent areas with natural light- a 18' square pyramidal sky light was placed on the roof.

The existing interiors were re imagined to work in conjunction with the additions. A maze of small rooms was eliminated and replace with open, flowing spaces. All existing bathrooms were re-worked for a better layout and new finishes where applied while the already generous bedrooms were reworked and adjacent spaces altered so all could be full suites.
